They say a picture is worth a thousand words – but the stories we tell ourselves about our photos might say more.

Through existing in a fatphobic culture we have all inherited beliefs around our bodies – the one thing that is there for us our whole lives. We shy away from the camera, saying “I prefer to be behind the lens”, or another generic excuse. Anything to avoid seeing ourselves.

But what if I told you you could develop a self portrait practice that not only enables you to feel confident in front of the lens, but begin to dismantle some of those beliefs around your body? What if instead of running – we stopped and got curious. What if we started SEEING ourselves and documenting our unique journey.

You are worthy of being seen, of being documented, and of being celebrated.

It’s time to celebrate your damn self(ie).

Meet The Artist

Hey – I’m Misty Moss.

I’m a boudoir photographer, burlesque performer, self portrait artist, Youtuber, and recovering toxic-body-image activist.

And I’ve built a career and therapeutic practice out of unearthing my own body image beliefs, and helping others do the same. I started my boudoir business back in 2016, the same year I started doing burlesque – both art forms powerful tools to explore the depths that toxic body beliefs have in our lives. But my longest artistic medium has always been self portraits. I’ve been taking artistic self portraits and exploring the idea of “self” in front of the lens for over 15 years. As I grew older, I really leant on this art form as I started to look at my inner body-belief demons and start to make peace with my body.

I created Art & Soulfie because I wanted to share the tools I have learnt (both technically and emotionally) to help you create a self portrait practice that can help you cultivate a deeper relationship with yourself – and also document yourself as the wonderful work of art that you are.

In a world that wants you to feel small and to adhere to someone else’s ideal of beauty: Be your own damn muse.

“Is this course right for me?”

This course is designed to teach you not only the basics of photography and taking self portraits, but also the toolkit needed to view images of yourself when we all have body-image-baggage. This course is right for you if…

  • The idea of being in front of the camera makes you squidgy, but you are ready to challenge that and grow past it
  • You want to capture your journey, your body, your story, your way
  • You want to feel like art – like the unique masterpiece that you are
  • You are ready to inspect your toxic image body beliefs and tell them to kindly eff right off

You do not need to be a professional photographer to take this course. You don’t need to know how to work your way around a camera (don’t worry, I’ll teach you). All you need is your phone, or a camera, and a desire to say YES to yourself.
